About

Constantinos Economides is a member of DRAW Collective (2012-2018), ME Design Studio, set up with Daniel Meyer in Germany in 2016, and ΦΧΨ Heritage Design, a collective that focuses on the creation of objects and installations, influenced by local topography and heritage. In parallel, he has its own studio in Nicosia, which focuses on the design of interiors, objects and furniture.

Constantinos graduated with a MA in Industrial Design from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London (2005-2007). His work has been distinguished in international competitions and has been presented in international exhibitions such as London, Belgrade, Valencia, Hamburg and Milan, such as Salone Satellite, Milan (2006/2012/2013), Valencia Design Week, Valencia (2011). In addition, it has received internationally recognised awards, such as the D&AD and the German Design Award Winner 2018.

He has also collaborated with leading and important designers such as the Campana brothers and Michael Sodeau. He is also an alumni and has participated in Boisbuchet Summer Workshops in France, in collaboration with the Center Georges Pompidou and the Vitra Design Museum.

His design practice focuses on balancing a combination of craft and mass production. He believes that the correct design of products should aim at the emotional and narrative commitment of the object to the user through its design language. This design concept is widely overlooked, resulting in too many products being over-designed or under-designed. In addition, an important aspect of his work is the relationship between aesthetics and functionality. This relationship is an integral part of the design process. Every little step in this process requires two key questions: how does it work? and what does it look like?

In academia, he has worked at Frederick University from 2008-2018, as a Lecturer. He has given lectures and presentations at the University of Applied Sciences North Karelia, Joensuu, Finland, at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig, HBK, Germany and at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta.

From 2021 until 2022 he will lead the OPEN UP Design Lab, which is coordinated by the Pieridis Foundation, within the European Cultural Program, "Creative Europe", in collaboration with other European Universities such as the University of Thessaly (Volos, Greece), Valand Academy (Gothenburg, Sweden), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain).
